West Virginia University Provost Joyce McConnell has named College of Business and Economics Senior Associate Dean for Research and Outreach Nancy McIntyre to serve as interim dean following today’s (April 10) announcement that Dr. Jose V. (Zito) Sartarelli has accepted an offer to become chancellor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

“In his five years here, Dean Sartarelli has brought inspired leadership to the College,” McConnell said. “His vision to increase enrollment with high-performing students, strengthen the link between education and quality careers, augment his strong faculty and staff with additional talent, introduce new specialized programs, increase private support and elevate the College’s rankings has been realized.

“Not only is B&E one of the top business schools in the country, but Zito’s work as chief global officer in helping the University raise its international profile has been tremendous,” she said. “We wish him all the best at UNC-Wilmington and thank him for helping us build a stronger, more unified West Virginia University.

“Please join me in congratulating both Zito and Nancy,” she said.

McConnell said a nationwide search for a permanent dean will be launched at a later date.
