With Earth Day upon us, West Virginia University President Gordon Gee and hundreds of volunteers got a jumpstart on tidying up the campus and community.

Gee recently joined the Student Government Association, Greek organizations, the Center for Service and Learning and members of the community for the Downtown and Campus Cleanup.

Volunteers spent a Saturday picking up litter and cleaning areas of campus and Morgantown.

“Our campus at West Virginia University is one of the most beautiful in the country,” Gee said. “Therefore, it is imperative that we come together and make sure we keep it beautiful.”

In the following video, you will see Gee get down and dirty. He also applauded the efforts of the volunteers for trying to keep the environment pristine.

“Often times, our students and Greek organizations do not get the credit they deserve,” Gee continued. “One of the missions for our student groups is community outreach, and they showed that.

“Civic engagement should be a cornerstone for student life. What you saw today is representative of a majority of our students. They are kind, caring, and assets to the community.”
